Bonne annee from Coyhaique

To all readers of this blog, I wish you a happy new year and une bonne annee!!!!

10 days ago I decided to start the carretera austral until the end. This road in the Northern Patagonia of Chile that is squeezed between the Andes and the sea. It yields beautiful scenery despite the horrendous weather which seems to be a plight a bit everywhere.
I started with Chaiten a city that is 10kms away from a volcano that erupted in 2008 and has spread ashes everywhere. The town is now a ghost town and it was really impressive.
I then went on to Coyhaique where I spent New Year with the lovely family of the guesthouse were we went (I travel with a wonderful French couple) and I am now in Cochrane before heading to Tortel (a city made only of wood, including the streets) and Villa O Higgins (although this is really difficult with public transport here) to be able to cross on foot the border with Argentina to El Chalten.

I admit I am a bit tired of updating the blog so I will write less and focus on putting the pictures with probably more comments as soon as I have a bit more time.

Best wishes to all for 2010 and hope to see you when I come back (still no idea when that is)
